In Defense of Grant Ward

I haven’t watched Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D since last season. I don’t even know why I bothered last season to be honest. Since they turned Grant Ward evil because they needed an exciting plotline and needed it to tie into Captain America: Winter Soldier, I haven’t cared at all about the show. I was really invested in Grant Ward as a character and I still am, but I honestly find what they did to his character as unforgivable. Now he’s just the whipping boy for everyone on the show, since he’s caught in between being evil and wanting redemption and not getting it. They have ruined any chance of Skyeward, which is fine, honestly, but I am tired of seeing Ward constantly being treated like shit by Skye. Stop making Ward pine after her. It’s so unrealistic to begin with anyway. The build up of Skeyward in season 1 was rushed and an actual good storyline with May and Ward was scrapped for something ridiculous.  And then they jerk his character around to routinely treat him like shit. And Skye, Simmons, and Coulson all have the audacity to believe they aren’t even a little to blame with his reaction to them. Skye is the worst offender of all. The final straw for me is when Coulson murders him and the monster takes over Ward and turns him into  the monster Skye, Coulson, and the others have always painted him out to be, instead of the complex human he was.

I really hate the writers honestly for all of this, but most of all for how they chose to treat Brett Dalton. It was a disservice to him as an actor and to his character of Ward.  It’s no surprise that most “Fans” of AoS want Brett Dalton to be fired anyway, because most “fans” are idiots who cannot separate acting from real life, and I truly believe some are delusional enough to believe Brett Dalton IS Ward. I won’t be watching Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D anymore, but I wasn’t watching it anyways.

One less TV show for me to care about and watch, which I’m fine with.

Well I went again and didn’t post for two months.

I wish I could say this is not a regular occurrence for me, but it in fact is. I think I went into this year thinking, I’m going to be able to maintain a full time teaching job and watch all my television shows and blog about it. Turns out I really, really can’t. Especially not when my illness, which is severe iron deficiency anemia, has begun to show itself again. So, I’ve been sick. I’ve been coming home every day after school and sleeping anywhere from 5-6 hours a night, getting up and doing grading or finishing lesson plans, only to turn around and sleep another 6-7 hours. Not normal. I finally went to the doctor and discovered my blood levels are super low again and I would need blood transfusions. And that’s not fun. It also has left me no time to watch my shows or blog or do anything but try to recover and still do my job.

But… things are looking up. I caught the ending of the Voice. I was not surprised or upset that Tessanne won. I was however surprised to see how many people hated her online. Twitter users and Youtube commenter were particularly vicious. Tessanne is spectacular and she deserved it.

New Girl is still fabulous. I finally caught up on that show today. I was able to watch Tuesday’s episode live. I still love Coach and Schmidt. They are my favorites.

I haven’t watched Agents of SHIELD since November. I will eventually catch up to it, but I pretty much lost interest after Ward and May slept together.

HIMYM is starting to drag again for me. They need to pick up the pacing. This is one show that I think I’m going to finish watching after the finale has aired. Although, I try to make it a point to watch my favorite show’s finales live, but this one has frustrated me.

Grey’s Anatomy. HOLY FLIPPING CRAP. That cliffhanger. I just want to know what April and Derek are going to do. And the whole story with Calzona is just up and down and all over the place. Grey’s is really good again. I am excited for it to come back in February.

Sherlock is back! I have yet to see the first few episodes, mainly because I have way too many other shows going on, but all the reviews I’ve heard are really good. So that is on my list of shows to catch up on.

I still haven’t caught up on the Dr. Who special. I feel awful about it too, because I LOVE Dr. Who. I REALLY LOVE it. I know that instead of doing this I could be doing that and I don’t know why I feel so guilty about it, I just do. Needless to say, I am excited to see the 12th Doctor and can’t wait for Capaldi.

Shows That I’ve Been Watching in Secret But Now Profess My Undying Love For:
Hart of Dixie
Parks and Rec
The Mindy Project

I’ve been a Community, Psych, and Supernatural fan from the beginning, but recently got into Hart of Dixie , Parks and Rec, and The Mindy Project. I am behind on all of these series though. I should catch up.

So to wrap up or TL;DR:
I am really behind on my television shows, because I am suffering from a flareup of a disease that I have and I feel guilty, but I’m going to try to do better in the future.

Not that I have any readers.

I suck at blogging. I realize this. I have completely just stopped watching The Voice,  because NBC goes in and out while I’m watching the show and so while I catch up on it after it airs, sometimes I can’t do it until the weekend due to my incredibly stressful job.

Either way, I am loving the top 10 (now). I totally disagreed with Preston Pohl leaving over Will, not that I don’t like Will, I just think Preston has an amazing voice. Regardless I honestly think Tess has a really good chance of winning it all this year. She’s phenomenal.

I have caught up on all the episodes and frankly, my bolded predictions earlier hold true for the most part. I really like Ray and Austin too. This is a pretty good mix of finalists this season.

As for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.:

I am still loving the show to be honest. I understand that it’s being panned critically by a lot of people and fans who are Marvel fanboys hate the show and want anyone who watches it to go kill themselves. Regardless, I am actually enjoying it for what it is. I have no real issues. Sure, I find Skye annoying sometimes and think it’s really lame to have Ward save the day each episode (well Fitz may have actually saved the day last night, so maybe not), but in all I find it highly entertaining.

New Girl:

I am literally so excited about the season now that Coach is a permanent member. I hate “Newbies” who hate Coach and are bashing Damon Wayans Jr. Sorry, but no. He’s hilarious and brings a breath of fresh air into the show. The first few episodes were actually pretty lame until he came back and now he’s a permanent member. So… yeah, I’ll take Coach. P.S. I am so over Schmidt not with CeCe.

Still love Shane, don’t care about Christina and Owen or Owen at all really. Loving the new and improved Richard, concerned about Bailey, and hate April and Matthew together. In general, I just want more Jackson and April scenes even if just for friendship. The season is getting on my nerves.

Modern Family:  I need to catch up on the show.

HIMYM: LOVING this season apart from Marshall and Daphne. I literally hate that storyline. Everything else is just freaking fantastic!

I have recently also started watching The Mindy Project. SOOOO funny. I am loving the show.

I am going to try to post more consistently in the future, but probably not. lol.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D 1×02 Recap/Review

So Sky is ready to join the team, except literally no one, but Coulson wants her there.  The two geeks run around trying to appease her and make her feel less like an outsider while Agent Ward and May are like, “Umm, why is she here, she isn’t even a member of S.H.I.E.L.D (Very “But she doesn’t even go here” from Mean Girls).  Honestly, Ward is acting like a mean girl actually and gives Sky the emergency exit guide of the plane like a little brat.

Coulson tells Sky that he got the plane as a little “good will” from Nick Fury, after he got “hit” during battle. (Referring to the major battle in the Avengers film). He tells her all about getting stabbed by Loki with his scepter. They of course casually talk about “Tahiti”, which we all know he didn’t actually go to.

They are off to Peru to investigate an 084, which means “Object of unknown origin.” Coulson says the last time they investigated it was for Thor’s hammer.  (Anyone else hoping that at least one of the superheroes makes a cameo on the show?) The team arrives and immediately the geeks do geek things. (I know I call them geeks, but I actually love them. I am a geek myself.) They get excited about the hundreds of species of snakes and monkeys in the jungle there. Sky is told by Coulson that she is only there to create a diversion in case word gets out to the public of what they find or are doing and she’s not happy about it.

They meet an archaeologist who found a temple that was dated 500 years before. The geeks tell Coulson that the alien object predates the temple by a millenium and is at least 1500 years old. Ward who is still acting like a pissy baby tells May she’s basically worthless because she doesn’t carry a gun. Then she basically saves his life and takes out two soldiers who attack them. It turns out to be a huge misunderstanding though and Coulson knows the leader of the National Peruvian Police, Camilla Reyes. She tells him that since the 084 was found on Peruvian soil she needs to have say on what happens to it, but he reminds her that 084s supersede all national laws. She tells him she knows there’s no way they’ll get to keep the device. Just as she does rebels attack them and blow up the archaeologists work shed and truck.

Meanwhile in the temple, Ward is still being an ass to Sky and basically saying that they all have worthwhile jobs and he can’t figure out why she would be necessary at all.  Once the rebels attack outside they realize they have to leave. Sky tries to help the geeks gather their equipment but they yell at her to back off, so she’s stuck on the side. Ward tells the geeks there is no time left to determine the device safety, so he goes over to the wall and yanks it out.

Ward leads the team out of the temple just as the rebels are shooting again. Ward uses a weapon that emits a huge electromagentic charge that knocks down the rebels. Just then, Agent May shows up with the bulletproof truck and helps the team escape back to the plane. Of course they are all bickering and yelling at each other while they drive back, as the geeks are worried about the device, Ward is yelling at Sky to stop talking and May is just trying to get them back there safe. Meanwhile Coulson and Reyes and her police are in another truck.

The team gets on the plane before Coulson and Ward decides to shut the ramp. Sky tells him that Coulson is still out there but he ignores her. Coulson, Reyes, and the soldiers arrive back just in time and they are able to shut the plane.

The geeks finally tell Coulson that the 084 is Tessera technology from “World War II/Captain America” era. It’s full of lethal amounts of gamma radiation.  Coulson radios to the FAA and they allow them to fly in restricted airspace. Coulson tells May that he’s sorry she had to see combat and she refuses to speak to him. He tells her he needs to check on the “device fueled by evil in the cargohold.”

He goes down to the cargo hold and finds the team fighting and yelling again. Sky tells Coulson that it’s terrifying that this is only their second mission and that Ward doesn’t even know any of their names. She says maybe she should be team captain. Coulson tells Ward, Fitz, and Simmons they all have talents the team needs and ignores Sky. Sky tells him that she’s good at stuff too as he walks away.

Fitz and Simmons realize their device is a weapon, meanwhile Sky tries to make amends with Ward and shares a drink with him. She explains her life philosophy to him and why she said she actually thought the revolution in Peru was a good thing. He tells her they just don’t see life the same way and can’t speak each other’s language. She realizes he got shot protecting them.

Just as Coulson and Camilla Reyes are getting reacquainted both Ward and Coulson realize she is playing them and that her team are trying to get the weapon for themselves. Reyes’s team makes May pass out, and take Fitz, Simmons, and Sky hostage. Coulson gives up the plane and Ward to Reyes for their lives.

She tells them the weapon was put in her country years ago when Nazi’s who moved from Germany after World War II lost it in the jungle. She wants it to end the rebel forces.  Coulson tells her that will destroy her country and the people in it if she does that. Meanwhile, down in the hangar, the tied up team bicker about whose fault it is. Sky tells them if May had been in the plane, rather than as the pilot. Fitz and Simmons tell her she’s crazy because May was only from the office. Ward verifies what Sky says and tells them she was known as “The Calvary” and is in fact a highly skilled and trained combatant. May gets out of her ropes and beats up the first soldier to enter, and Ward, using Sky’s philosophy of each person being part of the solution to solve a puzzle, tells Fitz and Simmons to come up with a group plan of attack.

Camilla Reyes tells Coulson that his crew of young agents, huge “mancave” plane, and a red convertible is just a midlife crisis and that he’s past his prime. She tells him his crew hates each other anyway, so they aren’t going to be that much good to him. He tells her that his crew is actually as good as 100 men and she just gave them something to unite over. Their hatred of her.

May drives the truck through the glass doors to let them out of their hold. Ward opens up the hatch to the air vent in the ceiling so that Fitz can send his “dwarves” cameras to spy.

Meanwhile upstairs, the FAA try to confirm the change in air plans and Coulson stays silent. He recognizes Fitz’s device and knows they are working together. Fitz tells Simmons, “This is the moment we’re going to regret.” He uses the weapon and blasts a hole in the side of the plane. One of the soldiers is sucked out the side. Coulson uses the rope that he was tied up in to hold on.

Ward leads the team up into the plane. He takes on the soldiers and tells the geeks to get the weapon. May rushes the cockpit and beats up the soldier in there. May gets attacked again but manages to stabilize the plane.

Sky with her quick thinking realizes that if she unflates the safety raft it will plug the hole. She saves Ward’s life when he’s about to be sucked out. She laughs and tells Ward that she read the safety pamplet he gave her to read. He said you’re the first.

Back at “The Slingshot”, they unwind with beers. Coulson checks his car for scratches while Sky makes fun of him. Ward tells May that Sky could actually be a positive asset but would need a lot of training. May smirks and tells Ward that she’d need a supervising officer, someone who is good. Ward smiles and says he’ll do it, then clarifies that May was talking about him. May just smirks again.

Coulson finds the team waiting for the rocket that will take the tessera object to the sun to be destroyed and asked whose brilliant idea it was to blow his plane up. They all take responsibility and say they are a team and Coulson smiles and says excellent work.

Just as the rocket lifts off, Sky recieves a text message saying that the Rising Tide is about to go black and asks what her status is. She looks at the team and then replies, “I’m In.”

And then of course Coulson has to go in front of none other than NICK FURY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Samuel L.  Jackson has a cameo!  He really is “furious” at Coulson for blowing up a plane that he had for six days. He tells Coulson he better fix it exactly the way he found it and Fitz is not allowed to make modifications like adding a fish tank. He then asks if Lola made it and Coulson tells him thanks for asking about her. Coulson calls Fitz and tells him no on the fish tank and the screen goes black.

Ward and Sky will end up hooking up. It’s basically obvious.

May will have a lot more backstory to unfold with her combat and hesitance to go back to it.

What does the “I’m in?” mean. Is she in as in with the site going dark or is it more sinister, especially considering the conversation she had with Ward about different vernacular in the hacking world.

WHERE WAS AGENT COULSON REALLY DURING TAHITI!???!?!?? That is still driving me crazy.

I love that they basically had a Thor, Loki, and Captain America reference in this episode.

This show is so good.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Recap/Review Episode 1

While I wait for Grey’s Anatomy to come back, I will be watching the encore of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

It opens up to Agent  Hill (Colbie Smulder)   “interrogating” the new guy Agent Ward. He doesn’t want to join the team but Agent Coulson wants him. Apparently, Coulson doesn’t know how he survived and thinks he went to Tahiti, but Agent Coulson and the  doctor guy have a weird and cryptic conversation and so there is a huge twist or secret coming up for Coulson. And with that one statement, I am invested.

We cut to a diner and we see a girl talk to a guy and they have a weird conversation about their lives and powers. We find out the guy’s name is Mike. We see Agent May working. Coulson goes to talk to her and she refuses to go back in the field. He assures her it’s not a combat mission and he needs her to drive and set up things for the team. He tells her he’s not asking her to do it, but it’s an awesome bus.

We cut to a hangar and see a gigantic airplane.

We finally meet the geeks of the team. They argue about everything. Fitzsimmons is the guy geek and Ward is ambushed by them. Fitzsimmons destroys Ward’s brand new phone. Coulson drives his red convertible on the “bus”. Coulson tried to tell a joke, but Ward doesn’t get it. Ward recognizes Agent May is stunned to see her.

Wemeet  the mysterious girl broadcasting from the van. She is part of a group called, “The Rising Tide.”  During her speech Coulson and Ward break into her van and kidnap her. (- At this point, I am interested to see who she is, but honestly the only thing I want to know is how Coulson survived. )

They ask her name and she says it’s “Sky”. She baits them with undecryptable equipment. They say they have proof of her having inside information. She is mad at them for kidnapping her, but shuts up when the agents tell her that they are not the only ones looking for people with powers. They ask about “Centipede” and she clams up. It cuts to Mike who has a centipede looking thing on his arm. The team find a burned down lab where a self improvement center was supposed to be.

Sky said she only saw Centipede on the internet and her trail went dead. Ward asks what she was after and she asks what he was after and he says, “World Peace.” She thinks he’s an evil government toolbag. She calls him a robot and he calls her a sweaty cosplay wannabe with a “boner for Tony Stark.”

Agent May is with the Geeks as they go to work with their toys. They find alien matter.

Coulson tells Sky that he has a truth serum and he uses it on Ward. Sky asks him all kinds of questions because he has to tell the truth. Ward breaks into crying when she asks about “Gramzy” (This part is hilarious).

Mike snaps when his old factory foreman refuses to give him his job back and he goes crazy. He decides his boss is the bad guy and he’s the hero and then assaults him.

Sky is stunned when she sees this on the news and gives Coulson the driver’s license she lifted off him in the diner. They figure out that someone offered to make him “strong” again. Mike goes to the doctor that made him that way. She is pissed that he showed up and tells him to disappear. He jumps out of the window and says that it’s not the end but an “origin story”.

Ward is back up and still mad at Coulson, but the geek guy has the audio and video up of the doctor and another test subject. They figure out that the centipede is an intravenous blood drip and they are making super soldiers.

Agent May and Sky are back in the van looking for her stuff when Mike attacks Agent May and tells Sky to save “us”  which is him and his son. He tells her to drive.

Back in the headquarters they realize that the treatment these men are getting are extremely unstable and are actually “bombs”. (So basically they are ripping off Iron Man 3).

Back in the headquarters the geeks tell Coulson that Mike will blow up in the next few hours. Coulson tells the geeks they have to come up with an option that doesn’t involve Mike dying.

May tells Coulson that Sky was taken.  She deletes all of his files from every database in the world but she manages to hack S.H.I.E.L.D to tell them where he took her. Ward and Coulson go to the van and tell Mike he needs to be taken into custody. He doesn’t agree with that and he blows the door off the van and takes Sky and his son into Union Station.

They manage to get Mike’s son away and out of the station but when Ward tries to subdue Mike he beats him. Coulson realizes that Mike is being followed by the people who made him that way. Ward follows him, but Mike is taken down by a gunman. Agent May beats him up but Mike who falls to the bottom of the train station meets with Agent Coulson. Coulson tells him that he will blow up if they don’t get the poison out.  Mike says it doesn’t matter because he has nothing anymore. His son, his wife, and his job is now gone and the government took it all. He wants to know why he was lied to and he has been stepped on. Coulson says he knows about the giants who step on people and it almost took everything he had too. Mike thinks he could be a hero and Coulson says he’s counting on it.

Mike is taken down by Agent Ward with an antiserum and stabilizes him. Mike is in stable condition. Coulson tells Sky that even though he didn’t get The Centipede he knows where they are now. He asks SKy if she wants to join their team. She says I could hack S.H.I.E.L.D from my van and asks if he can show her something new. Sky is literally blown away in Coulson’s air car. to investigate an 084… which nobody knows what that is?

I’m excited to see this show again. Very interesting premise and good cast!
